Soft tissue reconstruction of foot and ankle defect using various flap cover: single centre experience

Introduction: Soft tissue defect at ankle and foot region are very common following road traffic accident. Reconstruction in this is challenging to surgeon because of poor vascularity paucity available surrounding tissue. Purpose study evaluate various defect, advantage disadvantages different methods management, future prospective suitable method according defect.Materials Methods: Retrospective 65 patients with soft defects around underwent reconstructive procedures SMS hospital Jaipur from January 2020 December 2020. Study enumerates etiological factors describes surgical procedures.Results: Age presentation range 8 63 years males were more common. Road accident most cause for followed by diabetic orthopedic implant exposure. Most site dorsum lateral malleolus region. Free ALT flap cover performed frequently cross leg flap.Conclusion: Reverse sural reliable option small near ankle. Cross also large opposite healthy limb. saphanous used on medial side Larger can be covered free fasciocutaneous or myocutaneous flaps where microsurgical expertise available.
